Travel from Eilat to dead sea...the 4X4 alternative by Benayah Blum!

Day 1:

Drive from Eilat Northwards bound, and into “The Wadi of the Statues”, named after the bizarre “Statues” carved by erosion in the soft sand stone. After passing the Oasis of Beer Ora, we reach the wide Canyons of Nachal Racham and Nachal Etek. We ascend Ma’ale Sayarim (“The Scouts Ascend”), which gives us the opportunity to watch the geological phenomena called “The Finger of God” and eventually climb by foot to the Etek Waterholes. The “Scouts Ascend” leads us to the highway. After approx. 40 min. drive on the paved road, we go off road again, and drive to Mt. Kippa, overlooking the vast, wide landscapes of the Negev Desert. Driving down from Mt. Kippa, we reach the Barak Plateau. Time permitting, we have the possibility to climb by foot to the Barak Gorge, where we have to climb on rope ladders over some waterholes, or rest in the shadow of a big Acacia tree, till the group comes back from the gorge. Through a steep dirt road, we reach Nachal Paran, the biggest Wadi in Israel. This Wadi mounds in the Arava Road, which brings us to the Dead Sea.

 Day 2:

Leaving our Hotel we drive into the unique landscape of Sodom (Yeeea… that Sodom!!!). We drive through the wild, mysterious landscapes of Nachal S’dom, and up to an observation point on the top of Mt. Sodom, where we take a look down at the Dead Sea and its vicinity, and talk about this very special area, already mentioned in the Bible. We drive down to the ‘Amiaz Plateau, and walk through the dark “Flour Cave”. A steep dirt road leads us along the Potassium-Convert; one of the longest and steepest converts in the world, and into Nachal Peres. Here we step out of the jeeps and hike down to the Peres Waterholes, carved by water in the white, almost shining chalk. Now our jeeps will drive on a challenging road for every 4x4-driver. This road will bring us to “The Little Crater”, one of the three “Machteshim”, a unique landscape and geological phenomena, known only in Israel. We drive out of the “Gate” of The Little Crater and over the big canyon of Nachal Zin, and then down to “The Marble Waterholes” (Gevei Shayish). Those who like it have an opportunity to take a bath in the middle of the desert! Another dirt road winds its way through desert landscapes and brings us to the Arava Road, where our tour ends
